Free Energy - Rock and Roll (finally!)

These guys to the left are the future of rock and roll....from its very past. They are called Free Energy and my sense is they want to jam out the 70s in that heavy AM pop-rockin' kinda way that I remember well. The band's debut record Stuck On Nothing (Astralwerks/DFA Records) comes out digitally March 6th and retail on May 4th.

From the notes:
"Produced by DFA’s James Murphy, Free Energy’s forthcoming debut album, Stuck On Nothing, will be released digitally Mach 6, 2010 and physically May 4, 2010 on Astralwerks/DFA Records. "I loved making that record. It was so good to record guitars again. I kind of forgot that I used to be really good at that -- recording guitars." explains Murphy."

The NY Press wrote over the weekend: "Free Energy, despite being inexplicably signed to dance-heavy DFA Records, makes gleeful guitar pop deeply indebted to acts like Big Star and T. Rex (“Dream City” sounds almost exactly like ’80s stadium-staple “Get It On”). The guitars are bell-clear, sometimes chugging like a railroad train and sometimes exploding into played-up-the-neck arpeggios that would make Eddie Van Halen smile. Frontman Paul Sprangers has hair to his shoulders, weighs about 85 pounds, shimmies and points like Mick Jagger and delivers his lyrics in the sort of lazy, nasally shout that is the essence of snotty rock and roll."
