Rock Clip of the Week -The Dream Syndicate "Halloween"
The Dream Syndicate gets my vote for today's Rock Clip of the Week with their debut LP classic song "Halloween".
This video don't do shit, except display the words, but it's all about the jam between guitarists Steve Wynn and Karl Precoda, whose soaring, feedbacked leads take center stage for half the song. (For you musos out there, the verses are all D, and the chorus is Bb-A-G, then back to the D). So simple and most elegantly effective.
July 7th, 1984 is still a musical highlight for me, for as young dude, I saw the REM/Dream Syndicate double bill at Chicago's Aragon Ballroom (the same night the Syndicate recorded its "This Is Not the New Dream Syndicate Album … Live ! EP"), and followed it up later in the night with a Replacements-Del Fuegos double bill at the Cubby Bear. Both REM and The Dream Syndicate guys made it to the show - fantastic night.
