Friday Night Rock Show!
When I was a young lad, I used to get so excited about weekend multi-band triple bills at my local rock halls (in this case, the Aragon Ballroom or Riviera Theater, Chicago, a generation ago).
Yes, I saw this '78 bill:
- Elvis Costello & the Attractions/Nick Lowe (w/Dave Edmunds)/Mink Deville
And this '78 show:
Thin Lizzy, AC/DC/The Dictators
And another I recall:
UFO/Blackmore's Rainbow/Cheap Trick
In any case, all this history notwithstanding, I still get excited about good triple bills - it means the promoter has put some thought into it all, and tonight's Bowery Ballroom weekend show looks like a classic show. A great triple (quadruple?) bill featuring mostly local bands on the verge of bigger things:
- Sam Champion (tonight is the band's CD release party)
- Brooklyn's arena rockers The XYZ Affair (start of their tour)
- Cambridge's Drug Rug and
- Brooklyn's Salt and Samovar.
