The Musical Box tour

Tonight at the Vic Theater, Chicago-area folks get to enjoy the beauty and majesty of Canada's The Musical Box, the fantastic early Genesis-band tribute show. They are performing alternate shows of two early Genesis tours - the 'Selling England by the Pound' tour, and the so-called 'Black' tour.

According to The Musical Box's Wikipedia entry, the founding members of the real Genesis are big fans and supporters - "Genesis has fully supported The Musical Box in every aspect. In the late nineties their former guitarist Steve Hackett joined the band in London, England at the Royal Albert Hall, playing on a special encore of "Firth of Fifth". Drummer Phil Collins joined the band in Geneva during a Lamb show in 2005. He watched the entire show and told reporters afterwards that "they played it better than we did." He then joined the band on drums during the encore of "The Musical Box". Peter Gabriel, meanwhile, has taken his children to a show so "they could see what their father used to do."

The Musical Box is in NYC for two shows at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center on December 20-21. Tickets are on sale now for both nights.

Here's a glimpse at their work:
