The Incredible Shrinking Music Video
A recent AP story details how budgets and visions of music videos are scaling downward in this new DIY video era. And Saul Austerlitz, author of "Money for Nothing: A History of the Music Video from the Beatles to the White Stripes", says that's a good thing. As he told the AP reporter... "The new aesthetic is that it's very low-budget, lo-fi, very do-it-yourself, not at all dedicated to the old style of music video which was always bigger and louder and more explosions and more money. This is more a punk-rock aesthetic, it's very exciting."
His book looks worth a look - here's an excerpt courtesy of his publishers at the Continuum 33 1/3 series. Reach out to Saul on MySpace.
