Monkees petition for R & R Hall of Fame
There's a drive afoot on the other coast to bring 60s pop band The Monkees into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
It's being pulled together by Backstage Los Angeles supremo Sandy Jacobson and pals, who writes "With the help of Peter Tork's manager, we have created an online petition to send to Jann Wenner, and The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, to see if we can once and for all put an end to the urban myth that The Monkees didn't play their own instruments."
See the petition here. Scroll to bottom for signing.
Apparently, Rolling Stone's longtime editor Jann Wenner hated the Monkees in the 1960s and won't let a grudge go, according to this recent LA Times article. And that's seemingly what's holding back The Monkees nomination into the hall.
The Monkees deserve to be in the RockHall, methinks, but what will we do then about The Partridge Family (with their own respectable TV-generated music hits?)
