From The Jam - UK Tour update

Hey, look, Foxton's still scissor-kickin' it! YES!

From last week's gig review of From The Jam.
"All the energy was still there - mostly pouring out of Foxton, as he leapt around the stage, out- scissor-kicking Pete Townsend on occasion. Foxton also took lead vocals on several songs, including his own News of the World, as well as The Kinks' David Watts. Guitar and lead vocals fell to Russell Hastings, who didn't so much imitate as reinvent the Modfather - paying respect to the singer and his work, while putting his own character on things. A tough job, done very well indeed."

And (from a recent interview) here's drummer Rick Buckler: "How dare people suggest that From The Jam are a tribute band," shrieks Buckler, genuinely horrified. "Paul Weller still does Jam songs and no-one dares call him a tribute band. Bruce Foxton and I were two-thirds of the original Jam line-up, so it's not like we're paying tribute to some other person. That gets on my nerves." You can see his point. As founding members of a band who had 18 Top 40 hits from 1977 to their break-up in 1982 - including four No.1's - Buckler and Foxton have every right to dip into their own back catalogue."

I hope these guys get it together to come to NYC over the winter or next spring for some live shows - I'd be there.

Yes, the show was THAT amazing. In fact all the reviews on the current UK tour have been consistently outstanding. This UK press site details all the current live reviews at the top of their page.

This is a real eye-opener and shows that the British public still have respect for two-thirds of one of the UK's greatest rock and roll bands. The music speaks for itself and Foxton is the best bass player the UK has ever created. His time is due. No longer is he standing in the shadow of Stevie Winwood (ooops - I mean - Paul Weller).

Amazing, considering everyone was slagging Foxton and Buckler for coming back with the Jam without Weller. The proof is in the pudding, the Jam are still alive and kicking. This is totally awesome.
