Ashford Breaks - Pete Galub
This Friday night at Magnetic Field sees a cool double bill of music from the UK's Ashford Breaks and Brooklyn-based band Pete Galub and the Annuals.
Per their MySpace site: "Ashford Breaks' perfectly crafted and flawlessly executed songs bring to mind such luminaries as Big Star, the Feelies, the Wedding Present, the Fall, the Zombies, and My Bloody Valentine, among others. They tell of unattainable desires, of desperate people leading desperate lives, of dashed expectations; ultimately, however, hope and love shine brightly through." Their song "High & Low" certainly evokes some of that for me.....
NYC rocker Pete Galub leans more on classic, gentler pop on his recordings, but tears it up more in live settings. Melodicism is the key to his songs, and that's alright with me.
